Backpacking, bikepacking, camping while white-water rafting, big wall climbing, Brendan Leonard and Forest Woodward cover it all. These pages cover how to pack a backpack, how to set up a tent in the snow, how to camp with your dog, how to build a campfire, how to judge a river’s difficulty, and how to leave no trace while you’re at it. These are easily some of my favorite everyday ankle socks of all time. They’re so comfortable and they’re made using moisture-wicking merino wool too!
Chums Surfshorts Wallet
Sooo I don’t wear surfshorts, but this wallet comes in clutch on my backpacking trips. In case of emergencies, I put my ID, one credit card, some cash, and my keys in it, and clip it to the key ring in my backpack’s pocket to keep them safe for the trip! It makes a great stocking stuffer at just $11.95.

Kuju Coffee packs fresh grounds into a to-go filter that fits snug on the top of your cup–all you need to do is pour a little hot water over the grounds and you’ve got yourself a cup of steaming hot coffee in no time, AND it tastes like I make it at home. Freaking delicious.
Give your friend a gift of delicious backcountry coffee, if not for their happiness, for yours. It’s also a great stocking stuffer! $14.95

AllTrails Pro Membership
AllTrails is an online and app-based platform that makes hiking easier and safer! The app lets you find trails, save them to your “Backpack” and tracks your progress by recording your hikes. The free version is great, that is, until you find yourself without service (which happens allllllll the time when you’re in the great outdoors!). Gift your hiking friend a Pro Membership to allow them to spend more time offline and feel good about their safety while they’re out there too! $35.99/year.

Nomadix Microfiber Towel
Microfiber towels are super quick to absorb and dry fast too–the perfect towel for those on the go. They also come in some sweet designs. I’m drying off with the 59 National Parks towel in this pic, and with each purchase of a towel from their National Parks line, a portion is donated to Conservation Alliance to help protect our natural places. It’s super versatile (and can even be used as a yoga mat).
This portable, reusable, stainless steel water filter straw is such a clutch thing to have whether you’re traveling in an area where the tap water isn’t drinkable, or you’re out in the great outdoors! Your traveling, adventure-ready giftee is going to LOVE to see this in their stocking.

Camp Stove
Whatever your friends’ adventure style, I guarantee a camp stove will come in handy. The MSR PocketRocket Deluxe Stove Kit is the complete package (and comes at a decent price, currently on sale for $99.95!).

National Parks Pass
Give the gift of access to the outdoors this holiday season! Unfortunately, it can get expensive to get outside. Make access to the outdoors a little easier by gifting the America the Beautiful pass, which gets you to any national park in the US for the year it’s purchased! If you think your friend will go at least three times, the $80 pass is worth it. Promise.
Single-Serve Espresso Maker for Camping
The Wacaco single serve espresso maker is the perfect car camping companion for a slightly bougier (and heavier) version of the Kuju packets below, which is why it’s primed for car camping or everyday use rather than the backcountry. Load it up with beans, and it grounds and squirts out a creamy shot of top-notch espresso for all the outdoorsy lattes! (And it’s Prime same-day delivery incase you’re a procrastinator like me). $54
LuminAID Solar Powered and Charging Lantern
If there’s a car camper in your family or friend group, consider gifting them a LuminAID solar powered, charging lantern this season. The PackLite Titan exudes 300 lumens and lasts up to 150 hours on its low setting. It can charge phones 2-3 times before needing more juice, which can be resupplied by soaking up a few days of rays with its solar panel, or plugging it back into a power supply. It even has a red setting if you’d like a softer glow. $75.
Eno Hammock With Straps
A nylon hammock for two, the Eno DoubleNest has triple-stitched seams for durability, aluminum carabiners for easy set up, packs down small for those on the go, and comes in tons of cool colors and designs. I got the Klimit color and am in loveeee. $79.95.
Remember, straps are sold separately. I bought the ultralite Eno Helios straps for $34.95.
Tevas
The Original Universal Slim Sandals look great both on the trail or walking around any city. I bring these things everywhere these days! $54.95
Solo Stove Mesa XL Firepit

The North Face Nuptse Cross Body
How cute is this? It’s a puffer in a bag form in vintage green and black. I know I’d be stoked to unwrap this!
Changing Poncho
If your friends love a solid surf sesh, swim, or paddle, gift them a wearable hooded towel for easy after-adventure changes! This sick towel poncho from Nomadix is made with certified post-consumer recycled materials. LOVE. $69.95
Rumpl Blanket
Water-resistance and ripstop fabric make these blankets the perfect way to stay cozy and warm in the outdoors! They’re also quick to dry, packable, lightweight, sand resistant, and made with recycled polyester shell and insulation. It’s the perfect gift! Honestly, you might have a hard time giving your Rumpl away once you get it! $79-$150 (prices vary).
GRAYL Water Filter Bottle
A water bottle and filter in one, GRAYLs are great for both the avid hiker and international traveler, and they just came out with their brand new Nature Collection, with gorgeous colors inspired by the great outdoors. Osprey Tempest 20L Day Pack
Osprey knows what’s up when it comes to crafting packs for the great outdoors, and the Osprey Tempest Day Pack is no exception. It’s versatile, lightweight, and big enough to carry pretty much everything you need for a day on the trail. An AirScope back panel provides breathability with a close-to-body fit, and a hip belt adds extra support where you need it (I’m ALL about hip belts). It has multiple pockets for all the snacks, and it’s a women’s specific fit, meaning they thought about things like room for boobs! $160
Cascade 222 2 Burner Camp Stove
If they love a good car camping adventure, this two-burner camp stove makes cheffing it up in the great outdoors super easy! And it’s cute too. Bonus. $170.
Trekking Poles
I’m a big fan of gifting optional gear like poles. Why? Well, you don’t realllyyy need them to get outdoors, so they’re not usually one of the first purchases an adventurer makes. For example, a hiker may purchase a solid pair of boots, hiking pants, and a water filter before dishing out the extra money for poles. BUT they really are game changers when it comes to saving your knees on hikes, especially if a lot of it is downhill. Your hiker friend will love opening these over the holidays–it’s a sweet piece of gear they need but maybe don’t want to pay for with all the other expenses that come with getting outside! These Black Diamond poles are sweet (with cork handles). $119.
Gifts $200 +
Blundstones
These rugged boots are water resistant with great traction, are relatively light at 1.1lbs and can bridge between mountains and happy hour with ease. They have a steel shank for added support, removable footbeds for personal orthotics if need be, and have a leather upper to take on every adventure. They’ve basically become an extension of my own two feet at this point–I’d recommend them to anyone! I have the high-top boot and I’m in loveeee. $214.95
Women’s Danner Mountain 600s
These are my ALL TIME FAVORITE hiking boots. No break in time, lightweight, super comfortable, waterproof, CUTE, I can rave about these for the rest of my life. If your giftee loves a good hike, you can’t go wrong with a pair of these beauts. Pick up a pair of Danner Mountain 600s today! $250.
Garmin inReach Mini 2
The thing that every adventurer needs but no one wants to purchase for themselves. The Garmin In-Reach Mini is a satellite communicator in a small, rugged package (4” by 2”) for when the cell service is week. It allows you to send SOS alerts in case of an emergency, it has texting and GPS-based location tracking, and, if you must, you can even connect to social media while out in the wilderness. $399.99.
